Univ-Prof. Dr. Thomas Giegerich hat zusammen mit Desir\u00e9e Schmitt und Sebastian Zeitzmann ein neues Buch mit dem Titel „Flexibility in the EU and Beyond – How Much Differentiation Can European Integration Bear?“ herausgegeben. Der Tagungsband, der bei Nomos und Hart im M\u00e4rz 2017 erschienen ist, fasst die Ergebnisse eines Symposiums zusammen, das im April letzten Jahres an der Europ\u00e4ischen Akademie stattfand. Der Flyer kann hier<\/a>\u00a0eingesehen werden.<\/p>\n Die EU durchl\u00e4uft eine schwierige Phase: Euro- und Fl\u00fcchtlingskrise harren einer L\u00f6sung, die Solidarit\u00e4t zwischen den Mitgliedstaaten erodiert, das Vereinigte K\u00f6nigreich steht an der Schwelle zum Austritt, nationalistische Kr\u00e4fte gewinnen in vielen Mitgliedstaaten an Zulauf, die Zustimmung zur europ\u00e4ischen Integration sinkt, die EU-Au\u00dfenpolitik konzentriert sich auf Krisenbek\u00e4mpfung. Diesen und weiteren Fragen ist eine internationale und interdisziplin\u00e4re Konferenz an der Europ\u00e4ischen Akademie Otzenhausen unter Leitung von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Giegerich im April 2016 nachgegangen. The conference proceedings are dealing with the results of a symposium that was held in April 2016 at the European Academy of Otzenhausen. For more information see the leaflet<\/a>\u00a0and the following abstract.<\/p>\n The EU is going through a difficult phase: The euro and refugee crises are still unresolved, the solidarity between Member States is eroding, the UK stands on the brink of an exit, nationalist forces are gaining increasing support in many Member States, the support for European integration is diminishing and EU foreign policy is focused on combating crises. These questions and others were the focus of an international and interdisciplinary conference at the European Academy of Otzenhausen in April 2016 that was organized by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Giegerich. \nThe union appears too heterogeneous and the economic and political interests of the 28 Member States too diverse to be able to tackle these challenges as a whole. Does the concept of differentiated integration offer a possible solution? Can such differentiation offer the European integration project a better and more stable future? Which measures of diversity and flexibility can the \u201cever closer Union among the peoples of Europe\u201d endure? Or will such differentiation ultimately damage the joint European project?<\/p>\n
