The security situation in Europe has changed dramatically in recent years. Not least due to Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine since February 2022, calls for a (military) mutual assistance system among European Union Member States &#8211; one that is independent of NATO &#8211; have grown louder. Against this backdrop, this article examines and compares the conditions and legal consequences of the NATO collective defence clause and the mutual assistance clause under EU law, including in the context of Ukraine\u2019s potential accession to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>***<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dieser <a href=\"https:\/\/jean-monnet-saar.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/BartmannJacobs-The-Mutual-Defence-Clause.pdf\">Saar Blueprint<\/a> untersucht die rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen der kollektiven Verteidigung und der gegenseitigen Beistandsleistung in Europa. Die Sicherheitslage in Europa hat sich in den letzten Jahren dramatisch ver\u00e4ndert. Nicht zuletzt aufgrund des seit Februar 2022 andauernden Krieges Russlands gegen die Ukraine werden die Forderungen nach einem (milit\u00e4rischen) System der gegenseitigen Beistandsleistung unter den Mitgliedstaaten der Europ\u00e4ischen Union &#8211; das unabh\u00e4ngig von der NATO ist &#8211; immer lauter.
