Im gerade erschienen Tagungsband der 2. Tagung junger Europarechtler*Innen „Autoritäres vs Liberales Europa“ ist ein Beitrag von Julia Jungfleisch mit dem Titel: „Verstärkte Zusammenarbeit im Rahmen der Flüchtlingspolitik – Ein Ausweg aus der Krise oder die endgültige Aufgabe eines einheitlichen Europas?“ veröffentlicht worden. Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der rechtlichen und tatsächlichen Möglichkeit der Einführung verbindlicher Aufnahmequoten für Geflüchtete im Rahmen einer Verstärkten Zusammenarbeit.

Report by Prof. Giegerich for the European Commission published

One focus of the ongoing accession negotiations of the EU with Turkey are the independence and impartiality of the judiciary. Since 2008, Professor Giegerich has visited Turkey several times as an independent expert of the European Commission to evaluate the independence and impartiality of the Turkish judiciary. He submitted four pertinent reports to the Commission which were transmitted to the Turkish Government as well as the Governments of the EU Member States. Additionally, in May of 2014, he took part in a Peer Review Mission on the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors. This report has meanwhile been made public by the Turkish Government and the European Commission. It is also made available on this website.

New analysis from an American Expert now online

Jean-Monnet-Saar is proud to present it’s latest addition to the Saar Expert Papers. Leif Johan Eliasson, associate professor at the department of political science of East Stroudsburg University, describes possible challenges on the way to successfully concluding „TTIP“ which would, by it’s prospective impact, be second to none.

Part of the research process for this paper have also been numerous conversations with experts from both sides of the Atlantic, which makes the article not only highly relevant, but also balanced in the structure of it’s analysis.

Die EU und ihre Reidentifikation als Hüterin der Menschenrechte

Eine Analyse der neuen Rechtsprechungslinie des EuGH ausgehend vom Åkerberg Fransson Urteil

Im Rahmen der sogenannten „Montagskonferenzen“ wurde der Jean-Monnet-Lehrstuhl an der Universität des Saarlandes vom Institut für Dolmetschen der Universität zu Heidelberg eingeladen, einen Vortrag im Rahmen des Themas „Die Europäische Union im 21. Jahrhundert – auf dem Weg zum Superstaat?“ zu gestalten.

Lehrstuhlmitarbeiter Oskar Josef Gstrein nahm das Thema zum Anlass, um die Neupositionierung des Europäischen Gerichtshofs im Bereich des Menschenrechtsschutzes ausgehend von der Rechtsprechung Åkerberg Fransson zu analysieren und die Frage zu stellen, ob man gegenwärtig im Bereich der Europäischen Union insgesamt von einer „Reidentifikation als Hüterin der Menschenrechte“ sprechen kann.
