This Saar Blueprint examines the implications of the European Union’s accession to the European Convention of Human Rights focussing on the provisions of draft revised accession agreement of 2023. It examines several key procedural aspects in terms of their practical viability and effectiveness in future accession scenarios. Furthermore, the relationship between EU Member States and the other High Contracting Parties is analyzed by identifying potential risks and gaps. Although certain inconsistencies remain unsolved, the author argues in favor of an EU accession to the ECHR which would strengthen the Convention system as a whole.

Dieser Saar Blueprint untersucht die Auswirkungen des Beitritts der Europäischen Union zur EMRK insbesondere mit Blick auf den Entwurf des überarbeiteten Beitrittsabkommens aus dem Jahre 2023. Es werden mehrere zentrale thematische Aspekte auf ihre praktische Umsetzbarkeit und Wirksamkeit in künftigen Beitrittsszenarien analysiert. Zudem wird das Verhältnis zwischen den EU-Mitgliedstaaten und Nicht-EU-Vertragsstaaten untersucht. Obwohl bestimmte Herausforderungen bestehen bleiben, plädiert der Autor für einen Beitritt der EU zur EMRK, um das Konventionssystem insgesamt zu stärken.
